Writer/Director David Twohy is hard at work on those last two Riddick movies, according to star Vin Diesel. The actor, currently starring in Babylon A.D., is pretty confident the sequels will get made and wonders whether the movies will be filmed at the same time.
Richard B. Riddick was Vin Diesel’s first big action character, and first appeared in the 2000 science-fiction film Pitch Black. The character was revisited in 2004 with The Chronicles Of Riddick, which was meant to lead into two more films. Chronicles however, which is viewed by most as an ambitious but flawed film, was a huge flop at the box-office, and left people thinking the planned sequels would never get made.
Thankfully, Vin Diesel never gave up on the character, and it’s good to know that he’s still gunning for the franchise. The last two movies will reportedly deal with the Underverse and a return to Furya (Riddick’s home planet) respectively. The franchise also includes a short animated film, Dark Fury, and a video game for the Xbox and PC, Escape From Butcher’s Bay, both of which featured involvment by Twohy and Diesel.
David Twohy’s next film, a thriller entitled A Perfect Getaway, stars Timothy Olyphant (Hitman), Milla Jovovich (the Resident Evil films) and Steve Zahn (Sahara), will be released in 2009.
