Nope, still no one who fits Mara Jade 😦
Hey, so remember how Lucasfilm 2.0 and J.J. Abrams had made a big deal about doing a worldwide casting search for an unknown young man and woman to be in the new Star Wars movie except when the cast was announced no one had been recruited through it and it had looked just like a publicity stunt?
Well it turns out it wasn’t as an unknown boy and girl have just been announced as part of the cast of Star Wars Episode VII. Hooray!
In a statement, Lucasfilm’s new president Kathleen Kennedy said:
The Star Wars universe has always been about discovering and nurturing young talent and in casting Episode VII we wanted to remain absolutely faithful to this tradition. We are delighted that so many travelled to see us at the open casting calls and that we have been able to make Crystal and Pip a part of the film.
So who are these “Cystal and Pip” chosen among the approximately sixty thousand hopefuls who attended the open casting calls or applied online you ask?
Crystal Clarke is an American actress who was in Glasgow, Scotland, for her studies. She has done her share of stage work and will first be seen on the big screen in the odd-sounding period action fantasy film The Moon and the Sun in a small role.
As for Pip Anderson, he’s a British actor and parkour athlete (Jedi parkour?…eh?) who’s biggest claim to fame until now was appearing in a UK promo for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Episode VII suffered a bit of a setback when Harrison Ford broke his leg last month and as such the production will take two weeks off in August, but Lucasfilm assures that none of this will affect the film or its release date and that Ford is recovering well.
The new Star Wars film, which is to be the first of many, many more now that Disney owns the company, is currently shooting in London under the direction of J.J. Abrams (Star Trek 11 & 12) from a script by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi) based on a story by Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) and outlines from series creator and creative consultant George Lucas.
It stars returning veterans Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2 respectively, alongside newcomers Pip Anderson, John Boyega (Attack the Block), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Crystal Clarke, Adam Driver (Inside Llewyn Davis), Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Oscar Isaac (Drive), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Daisy Ridley (Silent Witness), Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit) and Max von Sydow (The Exorcist 1 & 2), all in unspecified roles.
Star Wars Episode VII will release for Christmas 2015.
