New Trailer: Paul Blart – Mall Cop

Basically Die Hard in a mall, comedy-style, Paul Blart: Mall Cop follows an incompetent mall security guard who rises to the occasion when a bunch of bank robbers take over the commercial center where he operates since he’s the only one who can take them on.

Directed by Steve Carr (Are We Done Yet?), Paul Blart: Mall Cop stars Kevin James (I Now Pronouce You Chuck & Larry) in the titular role alongside Jayma Mays (Epic Movie) and Erick Avari (Postal) among others. Buzz for this film hasn’t been very positive thus far, but considering it’s made by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison (this summer’s hit The House Bunny), who knows it might actually be a pleasant surprise.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop was co-written by James and Nick Bakay (two episodes of ‘Til Death) and will premiere in the US on January 16th, 2006. What do you think of this new trailer? Its certainly better than the previous one. Kevin Smith originally had a similar idea entitled Mallrats 2: Die Hard In A Mall, should he sue?

Inside Man 2 gets a screenwriter

While promoting his new World War 2 movie Miracle At St. Anna, director Spike Lee has confirmed that things are moving forward for his planned sequel to Inside Man, his most successful movie to date. According to Lee, screenwriter Terry George (Reservation Road) is currently in talks with Universal Pictures to pen the script, which will feature the original film’s characters.

Personally, I have trouble figuring out how an Inside Man sequel would work. Another heist by the same crew, being investigated by the same cop? I guess we’ll find out when the movie is released come 2010.
