New Trailer & Poster: Bride Wars

I was somewhat reserved about Bride Warsfirst trailer, and while this one still doesn’t make the film look that good, I still feel it’s a slight improvement and it certainly looks a whole lot better then Confessions Of A Shopaholic. As for the poster, it showcases the two leading beauties but hopefully this isn’t the final one-sheet. Bride Wars will premiere in the US on January 9th, 2009. Tell me what you think in the comments.

Bride Wars tells the story of two best friends portrayed by Kate Hudson (Fool’s Gold) and Anne Hathaway (Passengers) who become bitter rivals when they accidentally schedule their respective weddings the same day. The film co-stars Candice Bergen (ABC’s Boston Legal), Bryan Greenberg (ABC’s October Road) and Chris Pratt (Wanted). It is directed by Gary Winick (Charlotte’s Web) and was written by Greg DePaul (Saving Silverman), and relative newcomers June Raphael & Casey Wilson.

Yet another romantic comedy for Anne Hathaway

25 year old actress Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married) is slowly strenghtening her position as the new queen of cheese by starring in the romantic comedy The Fiance, directed by Burr Steers (Igby Goes Down) and written by newcomers Dyanne Stempel & Jennifer Robinson with rewrites by Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder).

Hathaway will play a woman who cancels wedding plans and breaks up with her seemingly perfect fiance so she can try to figure out who she really is. Her meddling parents try to patch things up between the pair, making it impossible for her to move on.

The premise sounds like it’s already been seen before, but Hathaway is very talented so she might make this worthwhile. But then again, even she can’t make the trailer for her new movie Bride Wars look any good.

Chihuahas bite the weekend in the US

When it was revealed that Disney was making a movie called Beverly Hills Chihuahua from the director of Big Momma’s House and Scooby-Doo, the movie world took a collective stand of disgust, but Disney sure knows what the people wants, and what they want is apparently to see chihuahuas talk on the big screen, making that movie the most successful of the weekend by far. The only other new release to make the top five was Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist, at number three. The other five big new releases more or less flopped, but none less than the comedy How To Lose Friends And Alienate People, which came in nineteenth place. Last week’s winner Eagle Eye slipped into second, while the fourth and fifth spots were filled with the romance Nights In Rodanthe and the western Appaloosa respectively. Another big winner which deserves a mention is the Anne Hathaway starrer Rachel Getting Married, which averaged nearly 32600 dollars per screen while showing in only nine cinemas.

Sequelitis part 6: Get Smart, Lethal Weapon, Pirates Of The Caribbean and Batman

A sequel to the spy spoof hit Get Smart is pretty much confirmed with original lead Steve Carrell reprising his role. As for co-star Anne Hathaway, she previously indicated her desire for a sequel.

Lethal Weapon 5, which was written and should be directed by series creator Shane Black, has apparently been put on the fast track according to potential castmember Columbus Short (Stomp The Yard).

Rumor has it that actor Johnny Depp is being paid 56 million dollars to reprise his Jack Sparrow role in Pirates Of The Caribbean 4. If that’s true, it would make him the highest paid actor in upfront salary.

As expected, the last bit of Batman sequel news was complete B.S., as per screenwriter David S. Goyer.

Casting tidbits: Defendor, Zombieland, Unthinkable and Alice In Wonderland

Kat Dennings (Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist) will join Woody Harrelson (Semi-Pro) in the superhero-themed comedy Defendor, while Jesse Eisenberg (Cursed) will join him in the horror comedy Zombieland, which we’ve previously talked about.

Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Gil Bellows (The Weather Man) and Martin Donovan (The Sentinel) have joined the cast of the terrorism-themed thriller Unthinkable from Australian director Gregor Jordan (Ned Kelly), which we’ve also previously mentioned. The film will start shooting on October 20th in Los Angeles.

Unsurprisingly since she shares his bed, British actress Helena Bonham Carter (every Tim Burton movie since Planet Of The Apes) has joined the cast of Burton’s Alice In Wonderland currently filming adaptation, as has Anne Hathaway (Get Smart). The actresses will play the Red Queen and the White Queen respectively.

New Trailer: Passengers

Passengers is a supernatural thriller directed by Rodrigo García (Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her) and written by Ronnie Christensen (10.5). It stars Anne Hathaway (Get Smart), Patrick Wilson (Lakeview Terrace), Clea DuVall (The Grudge), David Morse (Disturbia), Dianne Wiest (Dan In Real Life) and Andre Braugher (The Andromeda Strain) among others.

It tells the story of Claire, a young therapist who’s assigned to a group of plane crash survivors, when weird stuff starts happening. I think it looks pretty cool, but the supernatural thriller genre has provided many disappointments, especially when the time comes to explain stuff. The film will come out in the US on October 24th but people in Greece and Spain can already go see it. If any of you already have, please share your thoughts in the comments.

Anne Hathaway will be at The Opposite Of Love

Up-and-coming actress Anne Hathaway (Get Smart) has snagged the lead role in The Opposite Of Love, based on an eponymous bestseller by Julie Buxbaum. She will play a lawyer who’s afraid to commit and sees her life change after she turns down her boyfirend’s marriage proposal. Virtually unknown actress Kara Holden (Pride & Prejudice) makes her screenwriting debut with this film for some reason.

Could this be a new The Devil Wears Prada for Hathaway, who recently expressed her enthusiasm for a Get Smart sequel and declared that Prada sequel plans have been scrapped? In any case you can next see the actress in the drama Rachel Getting Married, which opens in the US on October 3rd after having made the festival rounds. Also, watch the trailer for her by-the-numbers looking Bride Wars.
