Steve Carell remaking Peter Sellers?

A rumour is going around that the 1967 Peter Sellers/Britt Ekland comedy The Bobo is getting a remake which will star Steve Carell (Get Smart) and Eva Mendes (The Women). The original British comedy, which was based on a novel by Burt Cole, tells of a matador who dreams of being a singer and is promised a big break if he manages to seduce the most beautiful girl in Barcelona.

This is one of [Carell’s] favorite movies. Seeing him in a matador outfit with a Spanish Castilian accent could be very funny

New Trailer: The Spirit

Suffering from very bad buzz ever since its second trailer premiered, The Spirit finally redeems itself with this pretty cool-looking, supposedly final one. I still don’t think it’ll be amazing, but it’s a definite improvement from what we’ve seen before. Comic book author Frank Miller (300) makes his true directing debut here, as God knows what exactly his co-directing contribution to Sin City was, and he also wrote the screenplay, adapted from the seminal comic created by the legendary Will Eisner (Sheena: Queen Of The Jungle). Here is Wikipedia‘s description of the comic book series:

The Spirit chronicled the adventures of a masked vigilante who fought crime with the blessing of the city’s police commissioner Dolan, an old friend. Despite the Spirit’s origin as a detective named Denny Colt, his real identity was virtually unmentioned again and for all intents and purposes he was simply “The Spirit”. The stories ranged through a wide variety of styles, from straightforward crime drama and noir to lighthearted adventure, from mystery and horror to comedy and love stories, often with hybrid elements that twisted genre and expectations.

The Spirit stars Gabriel Macht (Because I Said So), Samuel L. Jackson (Lakeview Terrace), Eva Mendes (The Women), Jaime King (Cheaper By The Dozen 2), Sarah Paulson (Serenity), Paz Vega (Spanglish), Eric Balfour (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and (ugh) Scarlett Johansson (The Other Boleyn Girl) among others. The film will be released in several countriesincluding the US around Christmas, and in most others sometime in Jauary or February 2009. What do you think of this new trailer?

Eva Mendes is an idiot (a hot one though)

What is going on with Hollywood’s hotties these days? Have they run out of men to date? First Cameron Diaz (What Happens In Vegastells us what it takes to date her, and now it’s her buddy Eva Mendes’ (Cleaner) turn. Basically, she says you need brains because she thinks she’s just quite dumb.

Brains are the most important thing to me, because I feel I lack them. I want them from the man I am with. I love a well-read man – that is such a turn on. I think it’s because I am not as well-read as I’d like to be. I don’t like a guy who has his game on and who knows exactly what to say. Some of the Cuban men in my family are very, very attractive, but they are sometimes a little bit too sleek. I try to coach my brothers and tell them, ‘No, it’s OK not to be too sleek. Be a little goofy. You don’t always have to be in control and say they right thing.’

So there you have it, you now know how to spread both Cameron Diaz’s and Eva Mendes’ legs wide open for you guys, and since they’re pals, you could have yourself a tasty Cuban sandwich right there. Given a choice however, who would you choose? My vote goes to Cameron.

Eva Mendes’ new movie, the chick flick The Women, premiered this Friday in the US, the UK and Romania (!) to rather abysmal reviews.

WTF? Ghost Rider to tour Europe, Da Vinci Code style!

While promoting his latest movie Bangkok Dangerous, Nicolas Cage also offered some updates on the status of cursed motorcylce-riding demon hunter sequel Ghost Rider 2:

“Yes, actually, had a nice meeting with the studio about 3-months ago,” Cage told Coming Soon, “and we talked about going international with that character. Taking him into Europe, having him go on a motorcycle tour through Europe, and he’s connected with the church, if you can believe that. So it sort of has elements to it that are very much in the zeitgeist, with The Da Vinci Code and things like that.”

I’m not too familiar with the comic book, but this sounds pretty weird. But hey, if they can make it work, why not? Ghost Rider is viewed by many (including myself) as being one of the worst comic book movies ever and was critically bashed senseless upon its release in early 2007, but that didn’t stop it from making a lot of dough.

I actually think that the character has a lot of potential and that the concept behind the first movie was very interesting, only poorly executed, and horribly acted by most (except Cage), so I’m willing to give the sequel a chance, hoping it will significantly improve from the original, like Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer.

Depending on where you live, you can check out Bangkok Dangerous right now in theaters. Ghost Rider 2 is expected to roll out in 2009 (is that possible?). No word on whether sexpot Eva Mendes will be back for another awful performance as Ghost Rider’s love interest Roxanne.

Eva Mendes to launch bedding line (!), would love to work with Cameron Diaz and appear on Extras

While “designing” clothes and fragrances is pretty common among celebrities these days, sexy actress Eva Mendes (Cleaner) is set to become perhaps the first with a line of bedsheets and pillowcases, something she’s apparently wanted to do for a long time.

“I’m a big interior design fan and architecture buff, that’s one of my passions. If I wasn’t an actress, I’d be an interior designer. I’m not smart enough to be an architect. We’re starting off with bedding and we’re seeing how the public responds to it… It’s very very affordable. I love sleeping… If there was an Olympics for it, I’d take the gold. I’m Cuban; we love to sleep.”

Okaaay…. Named “Vida”, the line will be available in Macy’s stores by the end of the month.

In related news, the actress has revealed she is desperate to star in a movie with Cameron Diaz (What Happens In Vegas), as the two are best friends, along with Lucy Liu (Rise). Sign me up for the male lead and I’m so there! The two did appear together in two episodes of Diaz’s short-lived eco reality show Trippin’.

“I am dying to work with Cameron. She is just a really good person and I would love, love, love to work with her.”

Maybe Diaz can land her a part in Shrek Goes Fourth?

Finally the poor girl can’t get a clue and is still trying to guest star in Ricky Gervais’ hit show Extras, despite being turned down. Her argument? She’s really famous in the US apparently.

“It’s one of my favourite shows ever and they turned me down. I was like, guys, you don’t understand I am quite a big deal in the States, and I don’t go on TV shows, but I really want to go on your show.

“I love Ricky Gervais, I love British humour – it’s my kind of humour, but they won’t have me.”

Of course this isn’t surprising as Eva Mendes’ ego is bigger than Russia (ever heard of that Starbucks story?).

You can next catch Mendes in The Women, which premieres in the US and the UK on September 12th.
