It’s a McInferno for Rose

Following the success of her latest comedy The House Bunny, Anna Faris recently decided to drop out of the more serious-minded Inferno, a biopic of porn star Linda Lovelace, and apparently Rose McGowan (Grindhouse) is now set to take her place. Wikipedia says:

Linda Susan Boreman (January 10, 1949 – April 22, 2002), better known by her stage name, “Linda Lovelace,” was a porn actress who was famous for her performance of deep throat fellatio in the enormously successful 1972 hardcore porn film Deep Throat. She later denounced her pornography career, claimed that she had been forced into it by her sadistic first husband and for a while became a spokeswoman for the anti-pornography movement.

The movie will mark the second feature for writer/director Matthew Wilder after this year’s William J. Frick biopic Your Name Here, and is set for release sometime in 2009. Who’s the better potential porn star, Faris or McGowan? I don’t like McGowan but she seems a better fit to me.

Three more for Inglorious Bastards

French actresses Léa Seydoux (The Last Mistress aka An Old Mistress) and Anne-Sophie Franck (La Jungle) have recently joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s (Grindhouse) new World War 2 film Inglorious Bastards and the legendary Isabelle Huppert (I Heart Huckabees) is reportedly in talks to play a movie theater’s owner. The film starts shooting this October in Berlin.

Inglorious Bastards has been a pet project of Quentin Tarantino’s for years and will be a remake of an Italian film from 1978 that is also known as G.I. Bro, Deadly Mission, Hell’s Heroes and Counterfeit Commandos. Described as in the vein of The Dirty Dozen, the film will tell the story of a group of Jewish-American soldiers behind enemy lines (France specifically) who spend their time scalping Nazis.

The ever-growing cast also includes Brad Pitt (Burn After Reading), Mike Myers (The Love Guru), Eli Roth (director of the Hostel films), Samm Levine (Sydney White), Diane Kruger (the National Treasure films), Til Schweiger (King Arthur) and Mélanie Laurent (Don’t Worry, I’m Fine). It is expected to premiere at next year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Christmas Trailers: Four Christmases & Nothing Like The Holidays

The end of year is looming so naturally, Christmas-themed movies! Both these films deal with holiday family reunions with Four Christmases taking the more comedic gag approach and Nothing Like The Holidays appearing to be more of the “heartwarming” type of movie. While both films look nice, I’d say I have a preference for the less commercial Nothing Like The Holidays. Tell me what you think in the comments.

Four Christmases

Four Christmases is directed by Seth Gordon (The King Of Kong) and written by newcomers Matt R. Allen & Caleb Wilson with Jon Lucas & Scott Moore (Rebound). It stars Vince Vaughn (Fred Claus), Reese Witherspoon (Rendition), Robert Duvall (We Own The Night), Jon Favreau (Iron Man), Sissy Spacek (Hot Rod) and country singer Tim McGraw (The Kingdom) among others. It premiers in the US on Novmber 26th.

Nothing Like The Holidays

Nothing Like The Holidays is directed by Alfredo De Villa (Adrift In Manhattan) and written by Rick Najera (1 episode of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman), Alison Swan (Mixing Nia) and newcomer Ted Perkins. It stars John Leguizamo (Righteous Kill), Alfred Molina (Silk), Freddy Rodriguez (Grindhouse), Jay Hernandez (Lakeview Terrace) and Luis Guzmán (Cleaner) among others. It premieres in the US on October 12th and was previously titled Humboldt Park.

Who will direct the Conan reboot?

A new Conan The Barbarian movie has been in the works since what seems like forever. It was originally supposed to be King Conan: Crown Of Iron, a third movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, but then he became Governor of California and plans fell through. Since then, producers have the oh-so-trendy reboot in mind, and are planning to resurrect the fantasy franchise in 2010.

Now the question is, who will direct? The Wachowski siblings (Speed Racer), Brett Ratner (the Rush Hour trilogy), Robert Rodriguez (Grindhouse), Wachowski protégé James McTeigue (V For Vendetta), Neil Marshall (Doomsday), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), the Brothers Strause (Alien Vs Predator: Requiem) and duo Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor (Crank) are reportedly all in the running. Who will it be? Who would you like it to be? Discuss!

Personally, I just hope they’ll set this movie in the same continuity as the forthcoming Red Sonja reboot produced by Rodriguez, starring girlfriend Rose McGowan (Grindhouse) and directed by protégé Douglas Aarniokoski (Highlander: Endgame). Conan, Red Sonja and Kull are all part of the same universe created by pulp writer Robert E. Howard.
