Original team back for Spider-Man 4 and 5!!! Also, Venom news

It’s official, director Sam Raimi and lead actor Tobey Maguire will return for the next two Spider-Man movies, which may even shoot back-to-back! Kirsten Dunst, who plays the hero’s love interest Mary Jane Watson, is not locked in but she’s expected to return as well (it’s not like she has anything else going on right now). Earlier this week, Bryce Dallas Howard expressed interest in returning as Gwen Stacy, the competing love interest she played in Spider-Man 3 (more on that here). My advice, kill off Kirsten in the opening credits, continue with Bryce.

As for the villain, though it hasn’t been officially announced, most people believe it will be The Lizard, as his human persona was featured in the two previous movies (played by Dylan Bakers).  But then again, most people thought The Lizard would be the third movie’s villain. James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) has been writing the films, the first of which will come out in May 2011.

In related news, a Venom spin-off is still planned, and Topher Grace, the actor who portrayed him in Spider-Man 3, will most likely star despite previous reports to the contrary. It is unknown as to when a Venom movie can be expected. Also, what would Venom do on his own?

Finally, that Spider-Man 4 auction ended at a whooping 28100 dollars. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Read this.

Bryce, James, and Sam discuss Spider-Man 4

Actress Bryce Dallas Howard, who played the part of Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3, would love to be back for the fourth outing of the web-slinger’s franchise, but understands if they leave her out of it.

“You know, honestly, I would love to be apart of any continuation of the franchise. But, I also really understand that there’s so many different story lines that the fans are really excited to see, and the studio, and the producers, and the filmmakers really need to appease everyone,” the actress said. “Whether or not Gwen Stacy comes back, I mean, I wish it was up to me, but it’s not. But yes, if they’d call me, I’d be there in a heart beat.”

As for James Cromwell, who played her father in the film, he believes their characters should appear at the beginning of the film, only to immediately perish (huh?). Finally, Sam Raimi, director of the three previous films, has stated that he would definitely love to be part of Spider-Man 4 in some capacity, but didn’t elaborate as to what capacity he was referring to.

Spider-Man 4 is being written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and will pave the way for two more movies in the popular franchise. The rest of the cast and crew are unknown at this point, but hero Tobey Maguire expects he’ll be back if Sam Raimi is directing again and heroine Kirsten Dunst believes the film can’t possibly be a success if she’s not in it (yeah, right). My advice? Do the opposite of the the comics: kill off Kirsten Dunst and keep Bryce Dalls Howard. The movie will come out in 2011.

By the way, you still have more than three days to buy your way into the film, with the auction currently at 5501,99 American dollars (more on that here)
