Law Abiding Jamie

Oscar-winning douchebag Jamie Foxx (The Kingdom) is set to co-star alongside Gerard Butler (RocknRolla) in Law Abiding Citizen, a psychological thriller from Frank Darabont (The Mist) who co-wrote the script with Kurt Wimmer (Street Kings) for some reason.

The script follows a successful assistant D.A. (Butler) who finds himself at the center of a vigilante plot hatched by a traumatized victim of the legal system (Foxx). Foxx’s character is devastated to learn that, because of a plea bargain, one of his wife and daughter’s murderers will be set free. So he unleashes revenge on the killers and those who made the deal.

Darabont has directed what is controversially regarded as one of the very best films of all time with The Shawshank Redemption, but his other works left viewers more divided, particularly concerning his latest, The Mist, and and his 2001 effort, The Majestic. In any case this would be a very different subject matter to what he’s used to, and I’m sure it will be one film to look forward to.

The forty million dollar film is set for release at an undetermined time next year and is also rumored to star Welsh hottie Catherine Zeta-Jones (No Reservations). In the meantime Foxx will be seen in the possibly awesome The Soloist (view the trailer) which premieres on November 21st in the US.

Fun Stuff: Celebrities go vote crazy

Fun Stuff makes its triumphant return with a boatload of election-minded videos. American celebrities have long used their unproven influence to encourage their fellow citizens to vote and they’ve never gone as all out as this year, what with their Obama songs and all. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought Americans didn’t actually get to vote for their presidents? So what is it you do vote for?

The above video, titled 5 Friends for some dumb reason, features a boatload of celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Benicio Del Toro, Sarah Silverman, Dustin Hoffman, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Linney, Jonah Hill, Natalie Portman, Forest Whitaker, Djimon Hounsou, Michelle Trachtenberg, Demi Moore, Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Eva Longoria, Courteney Cox Arquette, will.i.am, Jamie Foxx, Amy Adams, Kate Bosworth, Kevin Bacon and several others.

The one below however, entitled The Muzzler, is much more low-key and features only Jessica Alba (ironically in one of her better performances) and Hayden Panettiere.

And if that wasn’t enough, Rosario Dawson wrote and starred in the four-part internet musical La Pasion De La Decision to encourage American latinos to vote, directed by her co-star Wilmer Valderrama. You can see all four videos after the jump. Which would you say is more earnest/more convincing? Continue reading

New Poster: The Soloist

The Soloist is the new film from immensely talented British director Joe Wright (Atonement). Based on a true story, it tells the tale of schizophrenic violinist prodigy Nathaniel Ayers and the Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez who rediscovered him as a homeless man playing half-broken instruments on LA street corners.

Despite my anticipation for the film, which premieres November 21st in the US, I was quite unimpressed by the very poorly-made trailer which you can watch here. The poster however is another story, as it is quite beautiful, even though it somehow reminds me of the 12 Monkeys poster. How do you like it? And are you looking forward to this film?

New Trailer: The Soloist

Honestly this trailer looks rather poorly made to me, but The Soloist remains one of my most anticipated films of this year, simply because it marks the third feature effort for British director Joe Wright, whose previous two films, Pride & Prejudice and Atonement, are amazing masterpieces which you should watch if you haven’t already.

The Soloist is based on the true story of schizophrenic violinist prodigy Nathaniel Ayers and the Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez who rediscovered him as a homeless man playing half-broken instruments on LA street corners. Lopez went on to befriend Ayers and wrote a series of articles on him, followed by a book which served as the basis for this film.

Talented screenwriter Susannah Grant (Charlotte’s Web) penned the adaptation, which stars Jamie Foxx (The Kingdom), Robert Downey Jr. (Tropic Thunder) and Catherine Keener (Into The Wild). The Soloist will premiere in the US on November 21st.
