13 Tzameti remake gets a cast

We previously informed you that the award-winning 2005 French thriller 13 Tzameti (trailer above) was getting an American remake courtesy of original writer/director Géla Babluani, simply titled 13 and starring Control lead Sam Riley. Now a few other names have joined the cast, those being Mickey Rourke (Stormbreaker), Jason Statham (Death Race) and rapper 50 Cent (Righteous Kill). The general consensus seems to be that Statham and Rourke is the greatest combination ever, what do you think?

13 Tzameti to be remade by original director

Following in the footsteps of Michael Haneke (Funny Games) and the Pang Brothers (Bangkok Dangerous), French-Georgian filmmaker Géla Babluani will remake his 2005 thriller 13 Tzameti in English because American companies can’t be bothered to release a foreign film wide in the US.

One of the most talked about films at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and the 62nd Venice Film Festival, 13 Tzameti follows a young man who steals an envelope cointaining instructions for someone else, which he decides to carry out anyway.

Sam Riley (Control) will portray the main character in the movie, imaginatively entitled 13, that, like the original, will be shot in black and white. You can watch the original movie’s tense subtitled trailer above.
