New Trailer: Madagascar – Escape 2 Africa

The third and presumably final trailer for Madagascar 2 has popped up and it gives a lot more insight than the previous two. I wasn’t a big fan of the first Madagascar (I actually thought it sucked), but this looks potentially better, and though it’ll undoubtedly be incredibly stupid, there may be a few decent laughs.

Co-directed by original helmers Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath and written by Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder), the sequel, whose title can be read as Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa or Madagascar 2: Escape Africa, has the four New York Zoo animals from the first film attempting to return to their home on a plane piloted by penguins only to crash in continental Africa.

In typical DreamWorks Animation fashion, the film features the voice talents of many notable people including Ben Stiller (Tropic Thunder), Chris Rock (I Think I Love My Wife), Jada Pinkett Smith (The Women), David Schwimmer (Friends), Sacha Baron Cohen (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street), Cedric The Entertainer (Street Kings), Bernie Mac (Transformers), (the band Black Eyed Peas) and Andy Richter (Semi-Pro), and will premiere on November 6th in Hungary and Russia (???). Will you go see it?

Casting tidbits: Defendor, Zombieland, Unthinkable and Alice In Wonderland

Kat Dennings (Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist) will join Woody Harrelson (Semi-Pro) in the superhero-themed comedy Defendor, while Jesse Eisenberg (Cursed) will join him in the horror comedy Zombieland, which we’ve previously talked about.

Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Gil Bellows (The Weather Man) and Martin Donovan (The Sentinel) have joined the cast of the terrorism-themed thriller Unthinkable from Australian director Gregor Jordan (Ned Kelly), which we’ve also previously mentioned. The film will start shooting on October 20th in Los Angeles.

Unsurprisingly since she shares his bed, British actress Helena Bonham Carter (every Tim Burton movie since Planet Of The Apes) has joined the cast of Burton’s Alice In Wonderland currently filming adaptation, as has Anne Hathaway (Get Smart). The actresses will play the Red Queen and the White Queen respectively.

Will Ferrell is done with sports

Widely criticized for making the same movie over and over again, simply changing his character’s sport of choice, funnyman Will Ferrell (Step Brothers) has declared he won’t do that anymore, no doubt bringing joy to many a moviegoer.

I will no longer attempt to do any sports movie, anymore. Any sports.

As a reminder, Will has tackled soccer (Kicking & Screaming), NASCAR racing (Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby), figure skating (Blades Of Glory) and basketball (Semi-Pro) all in the last four years. I personally would have loved to see Will tackle the dangerous world of curling.

Woody Harrelson to fend off zombies in new horror comedy

47 year old actor Woody Harrelson (Semi-Pro) has joined the cast of Ruben Fleischer’s feature directing debut, Zombieland. In the comedy, Harrelson will play Albuquerque, a man who, with the help of a friend, rebels against the living dead from Zombieland who have taken over our world. More on this project as it develops.

Fun Fact: an unrelated French horror movie, also entitled Zombieland, will be released this year.
